Caravan Floor Delamination Problems

The basic integrity of your caravan depends entirely upon the floor remaining structurally sound.

As long as it doesn't creak or groan as we move around, we tend to forget about it. Even if it begins to feel a little soft and squashy beneath our feet, we can still probably convince ourselves that it has always been like that!

It Doesn't Last Forever

Unfortunately the floor will not last forever and, like most other things in this life it will eventually cause problems.

Caravan floors these days are made from a bonded laminate of plywood and insulation material. In the most heavily travelled areas, usually near the door and around the sink or cooking area, the bonding will eventually begin to break down. When this happens it allows the plywood layer to move slightly underfoot which will in turn damage the insulation layer.

As the insulation breaks down, the plywood moves more and begins to feel spongy as you walk on it. Obviously the longer this is left without attention, the more difficult and therefore more expensive it becomes to repair.

The Importance of the Annual Service

In its early stages delamination of the floor may not be obvious. It can happen very slowly and in a relatively small area to begin with so you really might not notice it. However, an experienced caravan engineer will quickly spot such small differences because he has probably seen it all before!

A small area of light damage can often be repaired quickly and much less expensively than if it is left to develop, so give Adrian a ring now to have things checked out:
